Having secured a certain reputation for associating with pyrotechnical mayhem, it's surely appropriate that I should record this water fountain, that, as I regarded it, burst into flames.
A fire fountain at Houghton Hall – and sunset from Hunstanton (pronounced Hunston, naturally) beach tonight.
Below, how the fire fountain is really started. I do not know the physics of how this actually works. I'll guess that a fine film of burning oil carries the flame up the water spout. The fountain smelled oily, probably a bit like the contemporary Gulf of Mexico.

Love the sunset pic–the sun is almost shaped like a sleepy eye half closed!!

Thanks, Jenny – yes, it definitely gave the impression of an eye opening just at the last minute!

The sun's reflection on the waves made the waves appear to be on fire, too. Really a very good photo, Richard.Cool fountain.

A pretty impressive fountain — water and fire. Water and earth — a mud fountain? Probably not as lovely.

Thanks, Carol! 🙂
