I was waiting for my Western Blot gel to run to run at work today (above), and I so I took a few idle shots around me. Here they are!
An ancient microscope, more gel running apparatus and power supplies, and a faucet.
Well, it was entertaining at the time!
😆
(The Western Blot I was running is part of my diagnostic procedure to identify problems with the metabolic enzymes found in muscle mitochondria.)

Yes, looks like a lab. I had to learn about mitochondria in botany and Agriculture classes and I still not sure what they are or do. And please don't try to explain it to me.

Glad I could oblige, Star! 🙂

Fascinating stuff. What target protein are you looking for to determine the illness?PS does it have that "laboratory" smell? I love that smell!

Well, since you asked:I. NADH-CoQ ReductaseII. Succinate-CoQ ReductaseIII. CoQ-Cytochrome C ReductaseIV. Cytochrome oxidaseThese are the four complexes I assay for activity. And, yes, it has a laboratory smell!

Well II. and lll. I for Alzheimer's and Parkinsons I can certainly see as very important these days. Not that all of them aren't important to the people suffering from them, of course. Also includes many diseases I've never heard of — I guess I'll have to keep watching episodes of "House" for those. :pAmazing the various test they can do these days to look for diseases. I might be a pessimist, but when it comes to medical science I can see at very much benefit over the years. Of course, who knows how much enviromental stuff is causing this stuff. Hey, didn't I just say that I looked at it optimistically?:pOh well. Thanks to you and so many others who are working on the side of Life there is something like Hope to be consideredThanks for the info. And have a great weekend.

I love the lab smell, too, and I may be the only person I know who likes the smell of a hospital.I loved chemistry in high school; liked all my science classes. They were my favorite subjects.

@ Linda. I should do a post on smells. Seriously. 😀

All a little bit of a puzzle, Edward. As time goes by, we learn more and more. Many of the diseases that I diagnose are poorly understood, and consequently untreatable, but with each case that we get, a little more understanding and eventually a treatment will emerge.Linda, I never cease to me amazed at the way our cells – or any cells for that matter – do what they do. 🙂
