My mother went home to England today. We took her to the airport this morning, hoping that the disruption caused by the latest Christmas terrorist would not add too much to the weary trip home.
An all-too-brief visit, and mostly house bound thanks to the dismal winter weather, but yesterday, at least, we had one glorious sunny day. We spent it driving out the American Bottom floodplain and the Fort de Chartres historic site that I discovered this summer.
It was cold and windy, but the sun was warming and we were well wrapped-up. A lunch earlier at 1111 Mississippi had fortified us nicely. The gift shop and museum were closed. Consequently, there were very few visitors so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.A thorough exploration of the grounds satisfied us. By the end, it was a pleasure to get back to the warm car and home.Alas, now the house seems empty and a little sad. 😦
