In many ways, the afternoon that I, my mother and my son, spent sunning ourselves on Climping beach was a highlight of my recent vacation.
Partly this was due to the weather which was almost uncannily fine for a south coast seaside visit. The Channel itself was as calm as could be, and as we arrived at low tide, we had the open expanse of the whole beach before us.
And not just us. There were plenty there, splashing, playing with their dogs, sunbathing, beachcombing. All in very good humor, perhaps aware, as we were, that this was special day.
Time seemed to slow down. Now, even thinking of that afternoon seems to uncouple my mind from the concerns of this moment and recalibrate it to a slower and calmer mode.

I love the beach, rain or shine, warm or cold. Looks like you had perfect weather.

That's the way vacations should be. I'm glad you were able to share it with family – that your son was able to share it with his grandmother. That's really nice.

It was very nice indeed, Matt. Something I am not able to do very often, alas. Thanks, Stardancer. It was. 🙂

I would be hard pressed to imagine weather more perfect than that day. It really was wonderful. 🙂

Nice beach – and not too crowded either it seems.Looks much like "my" beach. Maybe more pebbles and stones at Climping Beach, which makes it not so suited for bathing – which again could explain the non-crowded condition.

Oooooh, low tide and all those pebbles! One of my favorite things to do at the beach, besides wriggling my toes in wet sand, is picking up pebbles and examining them. I'm so glad you had such a pleasant day with your family. I especially love the first photo with all the ripples in the sand and the sun reflecting off of the wetness…….like jewels in the sand.

Thanks for those excellent comments, everybody. The lovely thing about Climping at low tide is indeed the combination of shingle and sand. At high tide, it's purely a shingle beach.

good blog post richard. i might be funny this way, but i prefer pebbles to sand. my feet can handle walking on rocks better than in sand, and my mind wanders at the mystery of each stone that passes before me. i agree with pam, pebbles and any rock to mention is a mystery that i love to view. i've rocks in my house, rocks in my garden, rocks in my car, rocks in my mind. i'm a wanna be geologist at heart! there is only one reason there are pebbles, water flows and rocks soften into stone. 🙂

I particularly like the last one.Not that this has anything to do with anything, but I like walking along the beach; but I hate being in the water. Kinda odd, yeah? And I love the smell of the seashore. Wonderful.
