I built myself a new computer yesterday. (I have built my own computers for over 10 years now – it really isn't very hard).

Anyway, there was a major difference this time. Since 1998 I have used AMD processors (K6 through K8), but finally I switched back to Intel and bought myself a Core 2 Duo processor (E7200). It's simply a better piece of engineering than the current AMD offerings. This has also meant an upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP to utilize the dual core processor. (I'm hoping I can skip Vista altogether until the next Windows OS version, rumored for next year).

The new machine is working very well, particularly on image processing (the main reason for my upgrade) and I am very pleased with it. Still, there is certain geeky sadness with saying goodbye to AMD. :bye: 😦
