As I mentioned below, I have been having a lot of fun printing and now framing some of my favorite photographs. I am not a big fan of on-screen images that are framed; to me that introduces an artificiality that works against rather than for the image. I know others disagree! But, in the real world, a frame is simply beautiful. It gives the picture a sense of place and proportion and a three-dimensional tangibility that reinforces the sense of image as artifact, complete unto itself.

I have been sitting on my couch just looking at the photographs you see here for about thirty minutes this morning, simply enjoying them. I like to do the same thing in art museums – only possible if you avoid popular exhibitions – so to gain the same pleasure in the comfort of my own home is rather special.
